WHITE OAKS, NEW MEXICO
An Historic Mining Ghost Town

White Oaks, New Mexico lays shrouded in the mystic beauty of the mountains. Billy the Kid and Pat Garret rode the streets of White Oaks back in the late 1800s. At that time White Oaks was a booming gold mining town and was the second largest town in New Mexico territory.
Today not much original remains of the town which faded into ghost town status by the mid 1940s. When the gold ran out and the railroad failed to pass through White Oaks, the town died. Today, however there are still about 32 residents in White Oaks and several of the old 1895 buildings remain. The mountains where men once mined for gold remain unchanged. White Oaks exists as a living symbol of the old west.
