BILL PATTERSON

Born in Booneville, Mississippi in a log cabin, Bill Patterson learned to play the guitar at age 13 with an old Stella guitar while sitting on a stump in a field. His entertainment career began in the Air Force and progressed across the United States to Phoenix, Arizona where he played rhythm guitar and did vocals for seven years with The Whole Thing band. Bill has been playing and singing in New Mexico saloons for the past 15 years. He has been playing in the No Scum Allowed Saloon in White Oaks, NM for the past two years and will be playing and singing there and at Beyond Belief. Bill’s country and western music repertoire is unlimited. His skillful ability to relate to his audience draws them into his performance not as spectators, but as participants.

CARLOS ANCHONDO

OHS Certified Farrier, Guitar Enthusiast

Carlos was born in Chihuahua, Mexico to a family that raised horses. As a child he was born with a love of horses and rode every horse he could climb on. In November of 1988 he immigrated to Las Vegas, NV and worked there for four years doing landscape design. Then in 2002 he visited Lincoln County, New Mexico and fell in love with the Land of Enchantment. He determined to move here and did where he bought 10 acres and a house. He started a pottery business here, but his love of horses turned him in a different direction. In Sept of 2005 he went to the Oklahoma School of Farriery and obtained his certification to shoe horses. Now his clientele includes cutting horses, roping horses and ranch horses that as working horses need good foot care.

Carlos also has played the guitar since he was 10 and has a collection of fine hand made Mexican guitars. He not only is the farrier for Beyond Belief Ranch, but will be joining us at the campfire in the evening.

JOE KARNES

Poet, Author, Chief Cook and Bottle Washer

Born in Missouri, Joe moved to California in 1944 where he worked as a logger. Joe is also a horseman and became interested in long distance riding. In1960-61 and 62 he cooked for the Buck Stephens cattle drive a six day drive with 500 mother cows, calves, bulls, the remuda, and an eight man crew. Joe continued to cook for long distance trail rides in California until 1996 when he came to New Mexico

A friend of Joe’s asked Joe to come to New Mexico to help him with a logging project. Joe arrived in The Land of Enchantment in January of 1996 and the spell of New Mexico wove around him and he never left. Today he is a woodcutter and has a fine Quarter Horse that just about does it all. He continues to cook for trail rides. One feature of Joe’s cooking is how much he can do with so little and how fast he can get it done. Joe will be cooking three meals a day of real cowboy chuck wagon fare.

Joe is also a published cowboy poet. He will be camping near the guests and will be available for the same campfire entertainment that the old cattle drive cowboys had. In 1996 when Joe cooked for the historic Applegate wagon train he wrote these words:

"So let's go forth, with our heads held high,
And be proud of what we do.
Let's show the world we have what it takes
To get these wagons through."

The wagons did get through traveling from Nevada to Oregon while retracing the historic route taken 150 years ago by pioneers led by the Applegate family.  Joe kept them well fed on their journey.
